S. Akin Akinyemi
(pronounced Ah-keen Ah-ken-ye-me)

IMG_4007.JPGI have been an active member of the Leon County community for more than 20 years.  I am a graduate of Florida A&M University’s School of Architecture.  I currently serve as President/CEO of Akin & Associates Architects, Inc., a local Architecture and Design firm.  In addition to my Master’s degree in Architecture, I also hold Bachelor’s degrees in both environmental design and housing development.

I believe that good government should be transparent and responsive to the needs of the people of Leon County.  As a business owner, mentor, and leader, the duty to serve others has provided me with the integrity and humility needed to represent the citizens of Leon County.  In fact, my personal and professional experiences have given me an excellent opportunity to be very active in various community service organizations.  Some of my community involvements include:

  • Member of the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce
  • Member of Leadership Tallahassee Class 21
  • Silver Life Member of the NAACP
  • Member, City of Tallahassee Minority Business Enterprise Advisory Council
  • Founding sponsor of the U.S. Green Building Council- Florida Capital Region Chapter

I believe that in order to lead, you must do so by example.  As a community leader and business owner, I have received several business awards, including:

  • Historic Preservation Award for the Restoration of the U.S. Courthouse in Tallahassee
  • The FAMU/SBA Small Business Person of the Year
  • Jacksonville Med/Week Professional Service Firm of the Year.
